Send a written Notice of Intent to any Colorado school district 14 days before you begin, and renew it each year. By statute it contains only each child’s name, age, place of residence, and hours of attendance. Alternatively, enroll through an umbrella school or homeschool under a Colorado-licensed teacher — those routes skip the NOI entirely.
Each evaluation year you choose: a nationally standardized achievement test, or an evaluation by a qualified person (a licensed teacher, an independent-school teacher, a licensed psychologist, or someone with a graduate degree in education). Results go to your NOI district or to an independent or parochial school. If a composite lands at or below the 13th percentile, the law provides a retest with a different approved test before anything else happens.
