Step by step

  1. Open Attendance and pick a child.

    Attendance is under Teach & Train in the sidebar. Attendance is kept per child; the tabs at the top choose whose month you see.

  2. Everyone schooled today?

    Press Mark today present for all, then Mark all present.

  3. Mark a single day.

    Click the day on the month. Choose Present, Half-day, Absent, Holiday, Other or Weekend, add Hours if your state counts hours and a Note if you like (only you can see it), and press Save.

  4. Catching up on a few weeks?

    Bulk select marks up to 60 days at once; tick All students to do everyone. Month tools can fill a month’s weekdays as present, or copy holidays from your calendar.

  5. Keep an eye on the count.

    The Year-to-date card shows days present, your attendance rate, absences, holidays and hours. Export report opens a printable attendance report for the child you’re viewing.

Common questions

What do the letters on the month mean?

P present, ½ half-day, A absent, ✦ holiday, O other. Days inside a vacation on your calendar show as holidays.

How does this count toward my state’s minimum?

Days present (a half-day counts as half) from the start of your school year to today, against the days your state requires. Set your state and school-year dates in School Profile so the count is right.

Is attendance per child or for the whole family?

Per child. Mark today present for all, or Bulk select with All students ticked, marks everyone at once.

Do I have to log hours?

No, hours are optional. The Hours logged total appears once you log some, or if your state counts hours.

What happens to lessons when I mark a day absent?

That child’s unfinished lessons for the day move to the next school day. Holiday, Other and Weekend do the same; a half-day doesn’t move anything. Turn it off in Settings → School year → Reschedule missed lessons.

We held school on a Saturday. How do I mark it?

Click the day and choose Present. It counts like any other school day. Weekend is for a day you didn’t hold school: it doesn’t count, and it moves that day’s lessons forward.

Can attendance fill itself in?

Turn on Auto-log attendance in Settings → School year: finishing a lesson marks that day present. It never overwrites a mark you made yourself.
